Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Daughter, Sister, Animal Lover, and True Friend to All

Dianne was born February 14, 1949, a true sweetheart. She was the oldest of four daughters of Harold G. and Dorothy Borg Smith. Dianne enjoyed a happy childhood growing up in the Millcreek area and was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Dianne graduated from Skyline HS in 1967 and went on to attend the University of Utah where she graduated with a BS in Elementary Education. Dianne married David Joe Porter on March 21, 1974, surrounded by their families. Together they have two daughters, who are their pride and joy. Lindsey Jo, born March 10, 1980, and Allison Dianne, born January 17, 1986. They began the first 19 years of their married lives at their home in Sandy. In 1994, they built a new house in South Jordan and have called that home ever since.

Dianne began her career as a part-time student and keypunch operator at First Security Bank. After 20 years in various roles in the banking industry, she was promoted to Branch Operations Officer at Wells Fargo Bank. Although she loved banking, Dianne decided to change her career path to become a Human Resource/Insurance Specialist for Associated Foods Stores. She spent 20+ years caring for her coworkers at AFS. Dianne excelled as a people-person and loved to help others in any way she could. She accomplished all of this while raising her daughters, supporting their many activities, and being an amazing spouse to her husband while he served his military career. Dianne was a meticulous gardener, housekeeper, home decorator, and a great cook. She believed in hard work, education, and physical fitness.

Dianne found her most cherished role in life when she became a grandma. Her grandbabies made her world go round. She cherished them and loved to spend quality time creating memories. Dianne had a way of making everything fun. She even had the most contagious laugh and could light up a room. She was gentle, kind, honest, and loving. She was the glue that holds her family together. Dianne truly loved animals, and right behind her grandkids, her pets were spoiled and loved with all her heart.

Dianne fought a courageous battle with dementia and Alzheimer’s for many years. She passed away peacefully on January 21, 2023, surrounded by her husband, daughters, sons-in-law, and grandchildren. “Goodbyes are not forever. Goodbyes are not the end. They simply mean I’ll miss you, until we meet again.”

Preceded in death by her mother and father, grandparents, several aunts, uncles, and cousins. Dianne is survived by her husband Dave; daughters Lindsey and son-in-law, Ammon Kemmethmueller, and her grandchildren Porter and Piper; Allison and son-in-law Tyler Wartman, and her grandchildren Easton and Tylli; her three sisters; sister-in-law; many cousins, nieces and nephews, and their children.

The family would like to thank the many health care workers who cared for Dianne in her nal days. Especially the team at Pheasant Run directed by Monique. Lastly, a special thanks to her hospice nurse Lisa – a true angel on earth.

Celebration of Life: Monday, January 30, 2023 from 10-11 AM at Jenkins-Soffe Funeral Home, South Jordan, Utah. Graveside Services: To follow at 11:30 AM at Utah Veterans Cemetery and Memorial Park, 17111 South Camp Williams Road, Bluffdale, Utah.
